    Is It Ok?

Is it ok that I kind of want to watch this game alone? I have one Cyclone buddy here in town, but he doesnt know if he will be able to get together to watch the game. I have a hawk buddy who I could watch it with, but that could ruin our friendship (Not Really)

Does anyone else watch games by themselves?

Note: Im on internship/job this semester so if I was in Ames, I would either be in Iowa City or Ames watching the game with friends, so I am not a complete loser and at least have some friends...

    Re: Is It Ok?

I like to watch the games by myself because, honestly, I'm almost embarrassed about how passionate I get while watching the games. The only time I'll go to a bar or something to watch it is if I can't see the game at home, and even then I may opt to just listen to it on the computer. My wife can't even be in the same room as me when I watch the Cyclones (she uses it as an excuse to go shopping).

    Re: Is It Ok?

My brother in law used to ask me all the time to watch the Cyclone game, then Notre Dame game (his team). I just couldn't do it. I don't like a lot of conversation during the game, unless its between me and the tv.

My husband and I watch the games in separate rooms. He wants to stand in front of the screen and yell at it.

It is OK. The only thing is, if we win then you feel like a loser jumping up and down all by yourself ;)

This is exactly why I watch it alone. My wife will watch basketball with me, but not football.

    Re: Is It Ok?

I've had other diehard sports fans tell me this too. If you are a really big fan of a team, and it's a really important game, some people just prefer to watch it alone.

I get upset when you're watching a big game with other people who are much more casual fans than you, and they want to spend the game talking about their stupid dog, a dumb movie they just watched, their boring night out they just had, blah, blah, blah. Basically anything other than the game. I also hate it when casual fans don't really know the team's roster outside the QB, don't know the team's record, and don't have a good grasp of football. For a big game like this, I don't mind getting together with other people who are also big fans that are just as passionate as you. But if it comes down to watching it with other casual fans who will just **** me off the whole game versus watching it alone, I will chose to watch it alone.

It would be like if a big episode of your favorite show, such as Mad Men, was going to be on. Would you rather watch it with people who don't really care or know what's going on or by yourself? If the people you are watching it with don't match the emotion of the event, then it's just better to watch it without them.

    Re: Is It Ok?

I'm watching it alone today. Part of that is superstition. Last year my wife went shopping during the Nebraska game and I'm hoping for similar results.

    Re: Is It Ok?

Personally, I like watching alone if it is a game I care a lot about so I can focus on it. What I really don't want is to watch with fans of an opposing team who will trash talk at every little play. I just want to watch the game.

    Re: Is It Ok?

I will be watching it with my 2 year old son, teaching him young and raising him right. My former roommate is the only person I've met yet that will actually add to the enjoyment of watching the game, but now he's a lawyer on the other side of the state. It's not that I can't watch with others, but usually they just annoy me with their ignorance and detract from the joy of watching ISU football. And ISU winning is enough, I don't need to have someone there to celebrate it with me.

    Re: Is It Ok?

First of all, watching the ISU-Iowa game in a bar is a no-no, unless you want to deal with the hammered hollering haweye homers.

When I watch ISU at home, I like to adjust the volume according to the game. If we are winning or playing well, I keep it at normal (loud). If we are playing badly, I turn the volume down and it seems to make it more bearable.
