Recipe for Wins: (1) Trick plays (2) A SMART Arnaud

When EIU did the trick play and faked the punt, they had their way with Iowa last week. I believe that one of the ways Iowa State can beat Iowa is to effectively draw out and execute some trick plays. This Iowa team is solid but they are not used to trickeries.

The other thing we absolutely need is for Arnaud to forget about the past and play the game tomorrow. By that what I mean is if he tried too hard to get even with Iowa as a revenge then forget it. We lose big. Arnaud needs to keep his calm and buy time. The clock HAS GOT TO SLOW DOWN in his head as he makes his throws. He makes those passes WAY TOO EARLY at times and wasn't comfortable at all as a QB against this Iowa team last year. I think our running game will help our passing attack, but Arnaud has got to play smart. That is the key.

Honestly, I would rather patiently work the ball down the field than try to get tricky if we don't have to. The only way I want them to run a trick play is if they see Iowa giving something away like NU did on the fake punt.

Now, I would like to see them get "creative" when they get down to the redzone so they can get 6.

Trick plays will not beat Iowa. Patience will beat them. Iowa is patient and that is what makes them good. Running trick plays all day long will not help. A smart and disciplined AA will be a must to beat Iowa though.

I wouldn't mind seeing Money Reynolds involved in 1 trick play. Otherwise, I'd steer clear.

    This

I still don't understand why everyone thinks we have to do some strange **** to win this game. It's Iowa, not Alabama.

Run and take care of the ball offensively. Take what the Iowa defense will give us.

On defense, bend but don't break.

Iowa State needs to play it like they have nothing to lose because that is just the fact. Iowa has everything to lose in this one.

Trick plays, like on-side kicks, are great!

I think the real key is our defense stopping their offense.

The reason is Iowa is just that good with their defense. I don't root for Iowa in any game, but this is their year to make some noise in the BCS title game. We all know they probably won't get there, but they are good enough to get there.

Anyway, we just really need to play with some aggressive play calls in addition to playing a solid 4 quarters of 'fundamental' football. I have every faith in CPR to pull off some trickeries in this one.

trick plays almost never work unless you are moving the ball with non-trick plays. I would love to see one work for the Clones, because traditionally they backfire for ISU. Like the onside kick last year that went right to the only guy on Iowa that hadn't run back 10 yards to block for the kick.

I'd rather that we call plays that will be generally useful throughout the season. Trick plays work once, and then everyone game plans for it.

I agree with cyhiphopp. If they show something that we think we can exploit, then MAYBE one trick play. Otherwise, stick to our offense, because that is the stuff we need to improve.

Our offense should be able to score on any defense we play this year. We could be in a lot of shootouts with this offense. Now, its hard to have a shootout with a defense like Iowa, while we will be able to score(maybe not a lot), the key will be to stopping their offense.

Let's run the end around (Tiller) who then passes the ball downfield.

    Be like Boise State.

Do it at start of the game.

Exactly! A reverse or something like that, okay but nothing too out of the ordinary. I like CPR for being aggressive like he was last year but I think that onside kick really changed the momentum of the game and not in a good way
