Better defense: NU in 2009 or IU in 2010?

Who do you think has the better defense? I thought our line played well against NU last season. I think we have an even better line this season once the line jells.

NU 2009. Much better. Iowa has a great DL this year but they are weaker at LB and CB than NU last year

Two different teams and defensive schemes.

Having said that, I would say that any Norm Parker-coached defense would be the toughest to compete against.

NU was spectacular. Their line was pro like. We scored one TD.

    Can I pick Iowa 2009?

No offense but against Iowa last year you scored no touchdowns.

How many did you score against Iowa? In the past 3 years? I'm not saying Nebraska wasn't better last year, but your reasoning doesn't make sense. Iowa's d-line is better this year than Nebraska's d-line last year. I would say Nebraska was stronger at cb's than Iowa is. Call it a wash.

Iowa's defense last year was better than this years version IMO. How many NFL guys did they lose? Pretty sure they weren't replaced with NFL caliber guys. Best thing for us is their strength this year is the line, something easily neutralized with a quick strike spread offense.

    IMO- NU 2009> iowa 2009>iowa 2010

Watching ISU play both NU and iowa, I was much more impressed with NU last year. Of course, it was hard to judge because we had our backups playing at C, QB, and RB and a large portion of the team(particularly OL) had the flu and were vomitting.

Statistically, Nebraska played better offenses and faired better. Nebraska blanked Arizona where iowa gave up 17. I know these are all variable but all stats and my opinion of watching the two in action, point towards Nebraska last year.

Excellent question. Do we need to start a new thread to discuss?

Iowa's d line is not better than NU's last season, sorry Suh was better than any guy you have on your team. Clayborn is dominant at times BUT not all the time like Suh.

Suh is better than Clayborn, but what about the other 3 guys on the line?

Without knowing much about Nebby's other 3...Ballard, Binns and Klug are pretty damn tough.

Oh yeah? And exactly how many TDs did you score last year against Iowa? If it's ISU TDs that matter, then Iowa's defense has been amazing against ISU since the third quarter of the 2006 game...

Anyway, Nebraska's scoring defense in 2009 was the best in the country. Their run defense was 8th and their pass defense was 18th. Total defense was 7th.

Iowa's scoring defense last year was 8th, their rush defense was 34th and their pass defense was 3rd. Total defense was 10th.

However, that was with Angerer, Edds and Spievey. Those are tough guys to replace.

The Iowa DL is most likely a line that's going to end up with several guys in the pros (if they keep their level of play up).

EDIT: Iowa State didn't do much against NU's defense last year, and Suh had...what...a blocked XP and a blocked FG? That's 4 points off the board by Suh himself. But thanks to eight turnovers (four inside ISU 10 yard line, right?), ISU was able to do just enough to win.

I don't think that Indiana has a great defense.

The Iowa D Iowa gave up 10. And the 7 was with less than 2 minutes left in a 27-10 ballgame.
