    Re: Kids playing football

I'm talking about small children having knives - they don't have the cognitive capacity to understand the inherent dangers (as a middle-schooler might). Therefore, it's my job as a parent to explain...

    Re: Kids playing football

Not everything you read on the internet is true, but most things you read in scientific studies are (unless they're touted by Jenny McCarthy.)

I didn't say that every single football player ends...

    Re: Kids playing football

So you don't care if your child plays with knives and gets stabbed, so long as they don't die?

If you want that, go Clek Foonf. They are wicked expensive, but look like a rocket ship and are very safe. ;)

    Re: Kids playing football

I think that, though, is that we don't exactly know what causes SIDS. We do know what causes deaths in a car crash, or head injuries in football. I totally agree that baby stuff can change, but...

    Re: Kids playing football

I am on a ton of car seat forums and in discussions, and have not once seen rear-facing be blamed for parents leaving the children in cars. Do you have a link to a scientific source? I don't see...

    Re: Kids playing football

Football causes degenerative brain injury, even in high school. Every hit takes a toll on the brain. There are links upthread and easily googled that verify that. If other parents want their...

    Re: Random Thread of Photography

I took my baby to Reiman Gardens this past Wednesday to get some photos of him, and took these images. I don't know that they're good or anything, but the lighting that day was very strong and I...

    Re: Kids playing football

Many more millions ride in cars, and the number of times they ride in a car per year is much higher than the number of times they play football? I don't see your point.

    Upthread people are...

    Re: Kids playing football

It's not over four years, though. I believe that the 20% of concussions in football is in one given year, over four years of ages. The driving was in one year, over one year of age. That's not...

There seem to be different rates depending on which study you look at. When you count up camp, before and after school practices, and so on, how many exposures does one student have? Then multiply...

Re: Friday OT - Blue Ribbon Baby

I was sixth in the state spelling bee after winning my school's and the regional (I was almost one of the nerds on EPSN). After that, my grandma took me as a ringer to the Ft. Dodge Museum Days...

I'd grabbed some stats from several sites, but Headcasecompany.com was where I found that one - it's a grass-roots organization. I found some good stats from other sources just now, though- LINK...

    Re: Kids playing football

For an 18-year-old, there is a 48 in 1000 risk of being in a car accident. That is 5%.

For a high school football player, there is a 1 in 5 risk of having a concussion. That is 20%.

Do 1 in 5 kids who drive sustain a concussion? Of those, do 33% report at least one more driving-related concussion within a year?

High-school football accounts for 47% of all sports-related...

I was wondering if you'd be posting in here.
