MLB: Re: 2015 Minnesota Twins thread

Well it's slammed shut today: Tigers cut loose GM

Will be nice to have them as less of a threat for a couple years in trying to get back on top of the division.

White Sox seem to just always be...

    Re: Cowherd leaving espn

Did he argue basketball is very simple as well?

Cause, you know, LeBron doesn't have a college degree either, and a lot of people think he's the best basketball player ever.

    The idea that a pro...

    Re: Cowherd leaving espn

Yeah, ESPN just moved the last day up a week.

Will be more interesting to see what Fox does, since MLB and the MLBPA are already calling for a pound of flesh from them as well.

    Re: Cowherd leaving espn

    Cowherd kicked off ESPN.

Will be interesting to see what it costs him at Fox.

Not that racial missteps are a new thing for Colin, but whatever.

    Re: Funnel in Ames

Yes. They can still do damage, but it is rare that they ever reach the ground and are typically short lived. Still could see EF0-EF1 winds in the cone.

They are usually handled with a Special...

    Re: Funnel in Ames

Dust devils are essentially the same as landspouts, in that it is again low level vorticity stretching.

Main difference is a landspout is getting it's upward motion from the updraft of a storm, or...

    Re: Funnel in Ames

Similar to certain waterspouts. Would be called a landspout if it was ever indeed on the ground.

Difference to a tornado is in this case the parent storm was not rotating, i.e. there was no...

    Re: Cowherd leaving espn

It's impressive they've been able to keep the Fred Flintstone/Barney Rubble shtick as popular as they have for this long.

I swear a couple of their Johnsonville Brats commericals had to be...
  10. Re: How "cord cutting" could be disastrous for sports fans

No, I think it just said that ESPN has lost enough cable/sat subscribers since offering through Sling, that it has triggered a clause that can allow them to pull out now at any time.

    Will be...
  11. Re: How "cord cutting" could be disastrous for sports fans

    1) $30/month actually doesn't make it up, the article touched on it. It makes up the subscriber fees, but it doesn't account from the humongous drop in ad revenue from audience shrinkage of 70 to...
  12. Re: How "cord cutting" could be disastrous for sports fans

Actually, the article pointed out how ESPN goes 1.25 billion in the hole on sports rights alone, from only 30% cord cutters. Not 100%.

And it doesn't matter, the second ESPN offers WatchESPN for...
  13. Re: How "cord cutting" could be disastrous for sports fans

    1. They'd come nowhere close to making up the difference by offerring $20/mo stand-alone Watch ESPN subs. Nowhere close.

    2. The article points out that ESPN's contractually restricted from...
  14. Re: How "cord cutting" could be disastrous for sports fans

    Biggest problem is right there.

Most sports fans drastically over-estimate what the actual number "most sports fans" equals. It's a much smaller market than anybody on here is going to admit.

MLB: Re: 2015 Minnesota Twins thread

If you listen closely, you just might be able to hear the sound of the window closing on this era of the Detroit Tigers.

They better shake something up to make a run in the second half because...

  18. Re: ESPN maybe not as essential as they would have you believe?

Yeah, definite bubble built up right now. Will be fascinating to see how it all gets sorted out when it bursts.
  19. Re: ESPN maybe not as essential as they would have you believe?

    Been saying it for years.

Most industry estimates say only 30% of cable subscribers actually watch ESPN.

Huge price hikes coming for us sports nuts when/IF decoupled TV takes hold, and some...
