  1. Re: List of potential replacements should Fred Hoiberg leave

I'm with you (except my #2 is Underwood). But TJ isn't exactly one of our own. I mean he left the program for, at best, a lateral move (more like a step down) to go to Washington.
  2. Re: List of potential replacements should Fred Hoiberg leave

I want Hornacek too. But we shouldn't back up the money truck. Make him a reasonable offer. If he passes, move on to the next guy. Let's not mortgage the athletic department on a semi-unknown.
  3. Re: List of potential replacements should Fred Hoiberg leave

Barring a surprise homerun hire, give me:

    1. Hornacek
    2. Underwood
    3. TJ

Hornacek because how often does a college team like ISU steal a sitting NBA head coach.

And since we like to give...

Re: Hoiberg Watch 2015: Thursday, May 28 Thread

I wonder if a couple of these seemingly random raises/extensions coaches got recently (Collins at NW, Miles at Nebraska) were really random...or if Pollard has been poking around for awhile trying to...

The "He told us he was coming back" was straight from Thomas' mouth. No sources involved.

Re: Hoiberg Watch 2015: Thursday, May 28 Thread

I agree. Although if you were really on the fence (ie. 50/50) you likely wouldn't tell that to a recruit. If you were strongly leaning towards leaving, you might.

I'm glad he didn't lie to the...

Re: Hoiberg Watch 2015: Thursday, May 28 Thread

Pollard has also changed his wording and public statements about Hoiberg and the NBA. He originally said "if the NBA was something Hoiberg wanted, then he'd have to make that decision" to "He told...

For all of those holding out some hope Fred stays in Ames, this thought is all over twitter with both college and NBA media:

Basically, we are just waiting for the shoe to drop.

    Here we go....

Kudos to Chris and Jeremy for nailing this. Both said it would be Thursday or Friday.
  11. Re: Legacy Defining Moment: Pollard Steps Up To The Plate

Well said. This is exactly how me and most of my ISU friends feel. Aim higher and if we aren't successful, TJ is a great Plan B.

But to say Hornacek or a proven mid-major coach is risky and...
  12. Re: Legacy Defining Moment: Pollard Steps Up To The Plate

Definitely priority #1. But if you can't coach them, you end up in a Greg McDermott situation. Sucking with good players is 10x more frustrating than sucking with bad players.

    Which is why my...
  13. Re: Legacy Defining Moment: Pollard Steps Up To The Plate

Good point. For year 1 anyway. After that, you can implement you process and players with an almost blank canvas.

But how often does a newly hired coach walk into a Top 10 team? Not very...
  14. Re: Legacy Defining Moment: Pollard Steps Up To The Plate

He has only fired two coaches...McCarney and Morgan. Is it his fault people steal our coaches? I'd say its a product of who we are.
  15. Re: Legacy Defining Moment: Pollard Steps Up To The Plate

Agree. But the nice selling point is that the next coach has a team that can surpass anything that Hoiberg has done. Conference title potential. Deep NCAA tournament run potential. No matter who...

I get what you are saying but do top coaches leverage that for a raise year in and year out? Of course its good to have a head coach that other people want. But I'd say its a little ridiculous at...

Re: Hoiberg Watch 2015: Thursday, May 28 Thread

I disagree. I'd taken a proven mid-major winner like Underwood over TJ at this point. Plus we could get him for about the same price I'd guess (TJ would be a little cheaper). Offer Underwood $1.5...

You don't think if an ISU coach not named Fred Hoiberg was going through this year in and year out, that some fans would be put off or annoyed? Because I guarantee that would happen.

    What is...

I'd hope so. Or at least he should have an idea who he wanted. Bill Simmons said Hoiberg would be the next Bulls coach last year. Adrian Wojnarowski has said it was a badly kept secret the Bulls...

I don't care if the guy is a jerk, as long as he wins (and has the ability to get along with people). Larry was a jerk. Floyd was a jerk at times.

Hell, I'd argue Fred hasn't been the best to...
