Re: Intermat Preseason Rankings (ISU 13th)

Combination of two things. One is that Hall got hot at NCAAs and outwrestled where he was expected to finish. He hasn't shown yet that he can consistently perform at an All American level. So they...

    Re: Door-to-door steak sales

    Then he fixed the cable?
  3. Re: Bibbs and single season receiving record for TDs

No. That is well within what even the NCAA allows for celebrations.
  4. Re: texas will pay players 10,000 each when allowed

It doesn't solve all the problems, but it does help to solve a glaring issue that causes some student athletes to live in NCAA enforced poverty. Which has the secondary impact of making bagmen less...
  5. Re: texas will pay players 10,000 each when allowed

Actually my point was just the opposite - we're already at a huge disadvantage and that isn't going away. But if stipends are capped at a level that smaller P5 schools can afford, like $5k, then...
  6. Re: texas will pay players 10,000 each when allowed

ISU comes out ahead if stipends are implemented as long as they are nominal amounts. We don't compete with Texas for recruits. We compete with schools like Rice, Houston, UCF, etc... for recruits. ...
  7. Re: texas will pay players 10,000 each when allowed

It allows guys who don't partake in below the board stuff to have enough money to go out every once in a while, get some decent clothes, stuff like that. A nominal stipend would be a huge...

    Re: Door-to-door steak sales

Door to Door anything sales creep me out. I generally just don't even answer the door if I realize it in time.

(exception made for scouts and stuff like that)
  9. Re: texas will pay players 10,000 each when allowed

That's why any stipend would need to be a nominal amount and have a maximum value. $5,000 for an entire year is pretty reasonable to me, which is what Texas is proposing. That'll help athletes...
  10. Re: texas will pay players 10,000 each when allowed

I don't think that ISU has as many athletes on scholarship as Texas does. In 2012 (the latest budget I could find quickly on google) our entire scholarship expenditures were less than $6 million.
  11. Re: Oklahoma's Mike Stoops wants to see lineman downfield rule examined

It isn't a nitpick though. Defenders are supposed to be able to key off a lineman heading downfield to read run. So sending a lineman downfield and then throwing a pass takes advantage of the...
  12. Re: texas to pay players 10,000 each

A $5,000 stipend seems pretty reasonable to me, I'm sure we'll be doing it as well once it is allowed. I just wonder how that'll work for athletes on partial scholarships.
  13. Re: Scandal At North Carolina: Fake Classes, Inflated Grades

ISU kept Troy Davis eligible. So there is that.
  14. Re: Scandal At North Carolina: Fake Classes, Inflated Grades

I did and still believe that Penn State should have gotten the death penalty. However, this is not an apt comparison. The NCAA does not exist to enforce the law, and what happened at Penn State was...
  15. Re: Oklahoma's Mike Stoops wants to see lineman downfield rule examined

Not really. A general complaint about how certain rules are enforced or not enforced is a lot different than very pointed comments about specific plays where calls were egregiously called or not...

Re: Intermat Preseason Rankings (ISU 13th)

Injuries prevented him from getting a lot of matches last season so it is hard to tell. But as I have posted before he was a lot closer to breaking through than he looked as a true freshman. With...

    Re: Jarvis West Injury Update

Except we're losing Wesley's senior season, where he would be much more productive than he is this year as a true freshman.

    Re: Jarvis West Injury Update

Bundrage has already redshirted and would not have a case for a medical redshirt unless a second injury cost him next season.

    Re: Jarvis West Injury Update

They wouldn't have put him out there if it was the concussion. A concusion is a yes/no situation, you are either 100% good to go or you are held out by the medical staff with the coach having no...
  20. Re: Wimberly's big night at Texas set up by executing one simple play

And Lazard and Montgomery pulling defenders outside is helping to get the ball to Bibbs.

It's almost like we're starting to have a fully functional offense. Weird.
