Re: So close to being a solid team.

2007 Nebraska team tied Iowa State for LAST in the Big 12 North. And they had a 5-7 record overall. Nebraska sucked that year. And in 2008 Iowa State went winless and did NOT play Oklahoma,...

Re: So close to being a solid team.

LOL. Under Chizik in 2008 we were WINLESS in the Big 12 and had lost 10 in a row when he left for Auburn. In Chizik's first year we were beaten by UNI and Kent State. Rhoads took over a pretty...

Re: So close to being a solid team.

IMO, Rhoads is a pretty good coach. We are going through a rough stretch right now but we are in games that could go either way. In the past they would not even get close. And the team is...

Re: So close to being a solid team.

If every game we played started at 2:30 pm we might be undefeated..........we have had 2 games that started at that time. Both wins. The rest have started at 11 am or have been night games.
  5. Re: Would Todd Blythe make it in the NFL if he played today?

Todd Blythe could have been a whole lot faster and run better routes and still not made the pros. He did not block. He took plays off. He was not a "complete" player. And he was not a Randy...
  6. Re: Would Todd Blythe make it in the NFL if he played today?

Don't hate Todd Blythe at all. The guy could catch about anything. And Blythe made Meyer look better than he really was. I have no idea what Blythe's demeanor and attitude were. I just said...
  7. Re: Would Todd Blythe make it in the NFL if he played today?

Probably because of workout numbers. Pro teams place way too much stock in Combine results. That is how a guy like Troy Williamson gets drafted by the Vikings with a Top 10 pick but he can not...
  8. Re: Would Todd Blythe make it in the NFL if he played today?

Todd Blythe was a terrible blocker. No way he would have made it as a Tight End.

Re: So close to being a solid team.

I would like to point out one thing. Out of the 6 years that were referenced to: In 4 of those 6 years we did NOT play Oklahoma, Texas, or Texas Tech. So we had the easy schedules in 4 of...
  10. Re: Would Todd Blythe make it in the NFL if he played today?

Todd Blythe had great hands. He could really catch the ball. IMO, he was not a good blocker and he also did not run his routes hard when he was not the targeted receiver. That is why he did not...

Re: So close to being a solid team.

Chizik basically had the same schedule as Rhoads. Chizik only won 2 games and he was winless in the big 12 conference.

Re: So close to being a solid team.

This team does not quit and keeps playing hard.

The Chizik Myth about great recruits and stuff is pretty much garbage. Chizik inherited Bret Meyer and Todd Blythe. And Chizik also inherited...

Re: 4 more Victories CAN be achieved!

LOL. Using your criteria we should have fired Johnny Orr. 3 Losing seasons in 5 years. Finishing in the bottom of the conference after being coach for 10 years or more.

    Bottom lis that...

Re: 4 more Victories CAN be achieved!

Yes. It was a bad decision which has now been rectified IMO. But as I have pointed out Iowa State has a history of giving some latitude with Coaches rather than firing them. Johnny Orr himself...

Re: fire all the coaches v3.0

Hired in 1977 by Oregon, Rich Brooks Oregon Ducks only won 22 games in his firs seven seasons.........the reason he has a sub-.500 record at Oregon. In Rich Brooks final season in 1994 the Oregon...

Re: 4 more Victories CAN be achieved!

You were surely calling for Johnny Orr to be fired after the terrible seasons of 1989-90 and 1990-91 when Iowa State had consecutive records of 10-18 and 12-19............Johnny Orr should have been...

I am trying to think of our Offensive Coordinator who was in his first year in 2012. What was his name?

By the Oregon Ducks in the state of Oregon who named the field at their Autzen Stadium, Rich Brooks Field.

And he is in their Hall of Fame.

Re: fire all the coaches v3.0

I would not pull the plug on Rhoads for the next couple of years regardless of buyout. I see no candidates better than Rhoads. I believe we would hurt the program if we did fire him at this time....

Re: YOUNG TALENT ON THE FIELD

Technically they call it a Hardship Waiver I believe. And he could apply. There is precedent. And he only played like 3 plays this season. He could get a 6th year.
