Re: Smokers live longer than the obese

I think the intention was that it should also be considered rude to call out people for smoking when it isn't bothering anyone but the smoker.

Re: Smokers live longer than the obese

I do not understand the point of yelling at people for smoking outside. I really don't give a **** that it's "illegal" to smoke in a public park. Either you can move 15 feet and not be affected, or...
  3. Re: Friday OT - What event do you want to attend?

I would love to go to Wakken Open Air.

Re: CVS Pharmacy to open in campustown

No, that's the dumpy 2-story house that's right next to Outlaws that's marked.

    Re: ANOTHER Airline Crash

That's why it kind of surprised me that the ratio was so close. The number of deaths/year are so drastically different that it seemed to me like the ratio of miles traveled/death would show that as...

    Re: ANOTHER Airline Crash

I don't think that really matters. Otherwise you have to include every time someone carpools, takes the family, rides a bus, takes a cab etc. into all the miles as well.

    Re: ANOTHER Airline Crash

That's interesting. It shows there are more deaths total from driving a car, but per 100M miles of each, you're more likely to die from plane travel. I actually wasn't expecting that.

    Re: Frat vs. Dorms

Why the hell does the decision for an incoming freshman need to be made 3 weeks before classes start? I thought most people moved into the dorms the first time a week before classes start, so why the...

    Re: ANOTHER Airline Crash

This just made me think of The Langoliers. The plane is probably just 20 minutes back in time.

Re: CVS Pharmacy to open in campustown

I was just going to bring up Reign. My buddies wanted to live in the house that was right next door to Reign the year before it transformed into Outlaws. Holy hell would it have been terrible trying...

    Re: Sick puppy

You know, I've thought about getting a parrot before. Teach it the name of someone I despise (Terry), get it to constantly say things like "**** you, Terry," "I slept with your wife, Terry" and...
  12. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

Do you remember when they stopped advertising lights and low-tar cigarettes as less habit forming? I remember as a kid in the early 90s both ads that touted that lights had less tar and nicotine (as...
  13. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

So why should the company have no expectation to advertise the proper use of their product?
  14. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

Depends. Is a company creating a false pretense for proper use/expectation for their product by glorifying the risky use of said product? If a company said that setting off fireworks from your mouth...
  15. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

I'm sure you could, and be successful with it depending on how long those advertisements went on after organizations started to make the dangers public.
  16. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

And there's a difference between people being dumb and negligence from a company. If I buy a power sander, I have a reasonable expectation that flipping the switch won't electrocute me. It doesn't...
  17. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

Considering what was told to the public from these companies is the reason for this exact lawsuit, it makes sense to draw as close of a parallel as possible if you're going to try and discredit my...
  18. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

I don't know. Did the city intentionally tell you that walking down the street without your shoes tied is perfectly safe when they knew in most likelihood that it would result in serious bodily...
  19. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

There's also consequences from intentionally being deceitful as well when marketing something. You're correct that today it's difficult to say you don't know about the dangers of it. At the same...
  20. Re: Florida Jury awards widow $23.6 Billion from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company

Yea, walking down the sidewalk may be hazardous to my health as well. However, that warning isn't stating what they knew, and intentionally deceived the public about.
