Re: Ankeny soon to be bigger than Dubuque

I didn't have a large issue with incentive money until the city(and all of us) bought the old 5 seasons hotel. I understand their reasoning for doing so, I just disagree that purchasing it was only...

Re: Ankeny soon to be bigger than Dubuque

The indoor market is pretty cool. We go there once or twice a month. It's crazy busy on Saturdays in the summer.

Re: Ankeny soon to be bigger than Dubuque

Even downtown Cedar Rapids is experiencing growth. For years the city council has been pouring money into special deals for downtown developers at the expense of many other parts of the city. There...

    Re: Motley Crue/Alice Cooper

If you like Sixx's book, read Duff McKagen's book, "It's so easy..." Interesting read on early GnR and some of their fights with MotleyCrue.

    Re: Templeton Rye...yes, please!

Bingo. I have given Cedar Ridge whiskey as gifts to business clients and have gotten all good reviews on it. I drink whiskey occasionally and I like it.

    Re: Templeton Rye...yes, please!

It's decent whiskey, but I don't get the overwhelming thrill over it. It's only bottled in Iowa. They purchase blended whiskey from a wholesaler, whose name escapes me at the moment.

    Re: 6/29-6/30 Weather Thread

My office in was downtown CR in 08. That was a surreal time. When the power went out on the 12th, I headed to office around 9am to find the river covering 1st st. I called my partners and we...

    Re: 6/29-6/30 Weather Thread

CR & Robins got absolutely nailed. Every single block has at least one tree or large branch down. No exaggeration. My power was down for about 6 hours and it's still dropping occasionally. Many...

Re: Game of Thrones Season 4 - Thread Attempt #2

With Tywin out of the picture, next season is certainly leading up to a major cat fight between Marjory and Cersei.

Re: After 13 years I'm finally ditching iTunes

No one else likes Rdio? Their similar music genre playlists can't touch Pandora, but I like the simple layout and I can tag a song or album and "add" it to my collection which is then available on...
  12. Re: 2014 Businesses closing stores or shutting down in Iowa

Glorious news. Now my wife can't suggest going there during Lent. I will not eat anything from that place. Even the fries smelled like greasy fish.

    Re: Worst Concert/Performing Artist

One of the last rock concerts I went to back in the early 90s was Poison with Damn Yankees and Firehouse opening. I hate Firehouse anyway, so their set sucked. I liked Damn Yankees, but their set...

Re: After 13 years I'm finally ditching iTunes

I use Pandora to find new music, but then I search for them on Rdio. I can create playlists on it better than Pandora does.

    Re: Steakhouses

The steaks are aged well and in some cases marinated. You cook them over a large grill set at even temperatures. Also, it's a social thing. It's more fun for groups than say you and your spouse.

Rubes Steakhouse in Montour just south of Hwy 30 is an awesome cook your own steak place. They have been around for as long as I can remember. They are nearly always busy.
  17. Re: Construction workers find railroad under Knapp St in Campustown

The funny thing about that railroad, is that another railroad line was placed over the top of it. Right in that location there used to be tracks that ran north/south towards the back of the Crawford...

Re: Tony Ramos Is Racking Up Honors

Wrestling could go away tomorrow and I could care less and of course the hawks suck, but Ramos is a good kid. He is friends with my wife's nephew so I've met him a few times. Likable guy.
