  1. Re: Column: Paul Rhoads vows to keep things old school at Iowa State

We were talking about a recruiting tool, who said anything about looking good meaning a better performance (though Tim Sitzmann might say it does). But better recruits can mean better performance.
  2. Re: Column: Paul Rhoads vows to keep things old school at Iowa State

I said if a kid was undecided between two schools but liked the uni's of one and not the other, why wouldn't the cool uni break the tie? If you don't think players get excited about cool new uni's...

Re: Jake McDonough talks about paying players.

You make a point, and maybe those at the bottom should be sharing in more of the wealth. But they're more easily replaced than guys that can run 4.5 40's, bench 400 lbs, and are willing to slam full...
  4. Re: Column: Paul Rhoads vows to keep things old school at Iowa State

If it's a tie and the kid is undecided between two schools, but likes the cool uniforms of one school and not the old school look of the other, of course the cool uni will be the deciding factor. I...

Re: Jake McDonough talks about paying players.

We can agree on that. Of course the medical bills is only part of the health exposure. Having lifelong back pain, concussion syndrome, etc is the bigger risk they expose themselves to while...

Re: Jake McDonough talks about paying players.

D-1 football players expose themselves to a high risk of a lifelong injury so the fat cats at the NCAA, TV networks, college a.d.s, etc can enjoy "capitalism". I think the football players are now...

Re: Jake McDonough talks about paying players.

Pretty amusing how brave some posters are on the internet when talking about football players. Somebody in this thread even called McDonough an idiot. In addition to going to classes and...

Re: Jake McDonough talks about paying players.

It's also his and other football players "choice" to try to get a bigger slice of the billion dollar pie they generate. It's called capitalism and the NCAA, college gear retailers, college...

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

I was at ISU from 69-72 and the fraternity would be teamed up with a sorority to build a float for the parade, which was a big deal back then. Veishea week also culminated with the spring football...

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

Motels, restaurants, bars, and retailers of ISU gear would especially benefit. And ISU enrollment is now the highest in the state, and who knows how much of that could be due to prospective students...

Re: Ankeny soon to be bigger than Dubuque

I think Ankeny has a history of identifying with its sports teams, though the schools splitting will hurt that as well as hurt the identify as one community. But there's a big Summerfest celebration...

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

Probably a pretty good chance of this happening and campus security and Ames P.D. being even less prepared to handle it as it may be a more spontaneous event. So we could have the out of control...

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

If that's really what most kids think of Veishea then it's time to make a major effort to change the perception imo.

Of course you have the lake at Polk City, and North Polk just built a great looking new high school in Alleman and have upgraded their athletic facilities in recent years too. For athletic...

Amen to that. I know it's called routine but still a relief for it to be over and get Fred back to Ames.

Task Force sounds a bit too manly for this cut and run group.

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

Pretty sad. Makes one wonder if the committee (Tom Hill) really wants to hear possible solutions to big parties getting out of control. Apparently blaming Veishea is easier than putting the blame...

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

Agree and no doubt a mob can form and egg on the crazies. Point is to find solutions to prevent mobs from forming in the first place. Also have people monitoring big parties that can notify...

Re: Task Force Recommendation for VEISHEA

Certainly a terrible trajedy and if you don't want to discuss it I can understand. But how is Veishea to blame?
