Re: The Old Happy Joes Location

I love Ames, but Duff has been a disaster for a long, long time. Yet, it is only getting worse.
  2. Re: A look at Iowa State's Ballscreen Defense Problem

Icing is having the defender on the ball force the ball handler to go away from the screen so that it cannot be used.

Hedging is the defender on the man setting the screen popping above the screen...
  3. Re: A look at Iowa State's Ballscreen Defense Problem

Agreed. I think that a large portion of it too is that the gaps from team to team in the variable data is very minor. But when the teams are ranked by that data for convenience it makes gaps look...
  4. Re: A look at Iowa State's Ballscreen Defense Problem

This off season there has been an apparent focus from Niang to shed pounds, so that probably offers some guesses as to what his future holds and his defensive role. Maybe...? Ha ha.

    I will add too...
  5. Re: A look at Iowa State's Ballscreen Defense Problem

Agree...but I was referencing when a switch wouldn't create a mismatch. (At least that's what I was trying to say with "...when switching can be done..."). Switching isn't the best bet, but in some...
  6. Re: A look at Iowa State's Ballscreen Defense Problem

For sure, the guy switching off the man with the ball can't fall a sleep and get sealed and beaten on a slip but more often than not when switching can be done it is executed better and more often...
  7. Re: A look at Iowa State's Ballscreen Defense Problem

Good stuff! The work filter isn't loading up the images for me so I'll have to check this out in greater detail tonight.

I have done some preliminary research in the past on your first point about...

Re: never as good or as bad as it seems

Because the first 100+ years of Iowa State Football was overflowing with bowl wins.

Re: $18 for All-Time ISU Basketball Starting 5

I'm boycotting this exercise. :) Not because it wouldn't be fun, but because of the omitted players. I won't argue against guys on there but there are a few guys that should absolutely be considered...

Re: Tsalmpouris: Rare 7-footer at Iowa State

The previous six were Tom O'Connor (1971-73, 45 games played), Joe Ahsley (1979-80, 2 games played), Brad Dudek (1983-85, 20 games played), Tyler Peterson (1995-96, 15 games played), Chris Alexander...

    Re: Position Battles: Small Forward

    Two guesses:

    1) This is more of a look at a battle for the final starting spot than a battle for the SF role

    2) I don't think Long will start and I'm pretty certain Nader and Hogue will

    Re: Positionless Offense

I would need more information to answer that....but I'm pretty sure I don't want more information.

    Re: Positionless Offense

I'm not trying to sugar coat it...at least I didn't think I was. 28% isn't good by any means I'm just saying it isn't as terrible as most would think. But it is entirely possible we have different...

    Re: Positionless Offense

First off, thanks OP for the linkage.

I think this is true to a very limited extent. Like I pointed out there are positions in set plays but I think it is far more because that is the easiest...

    Re: The Deflation of Rebounding

Yes. The problem there is that nobody ever cites a player's rebounding percentage. And, as I pointed out, guys from 50 years ago still tend to have a disproportionate number of top performers in...

    Re: The Deflation of Rebounding

I should add, while I agree that the rebounding burden is now spread more evenly across a team that I still think the biggest contributor is the total number of live ball missed shots decreasing...

    Re: The Deflation of Rebounding

    Some good comments.

I think the leveling of individual rebounds across a team may be one of the bigger influences... I'll have to look into that soon.

As far as individual rebound rates with...
