However, discounting that, you're still wrong. First, the implication of 'you drive 20 minutes in either direction' is the end of the trip. Otherwise, the statement would have been 'within 20 minutes....' Secondly, the statement was made about kids. No kid looks out the window anymore, they're watching DVD's or Bluerays, or sexting and fiddling with their WiiWii's and stuff so the route and what is present on said route is an invalid point.
Really, are you smokin' the dank again? I have no idea what youre saying anymore. nor do i care. This is stupid.

If you drive the speed limit. Which you probably would with all that dank in the tank.
Or, depending on where google maps starts you from 'Cedar Rapids'...that's a large starting spot.
You're still caring?

Everybody realizes this commericial was trying to sell you a pickup truck right? You're being manipulated. I love farmers and farming but it's just like that Jeep USO commericial with queen Oprah...pull on the heart strings = sell product. I don't care to be manipulated like that. I also don't now a single farmer that thinks they should be worshiped for doing their job. Most farmers I know over 40 are already millionaires.

Re: God Made A Farmer commercial = EPIC!
The problem isn't the fact some people are "lobbying" against agriculture. The fact is that is there is a consorted effort to completely destroy agriculture in America today. It has started in the states without a strong livestock agriculture base, and is slowly moving towards the middle. When you have restaurants, grocery stores, and state governments bowing to the pressure of an organization like HSUS instead of listening to the actually farmers and professionals whose job is to know how to best raise livestock, then you have a problem. When you have ABC news running with their story on "Pink Slime" without know any of the ACTUAL facts, then you have a problem. When there are stories disparaging GMOs and not having the facts straight, but the general public believes it, then you have a problem. Hopefully this commercial is a resurgence for American Agriculture to stand up and be proud of what they are and what they do. It needs to happen, or else we could be in a world of hurt, and not just agriculturalists.
“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.” -

Hello, the 1980s and late 1990s called and wanted you to know that this can change pretty damn quick.

Hello, the 1980s and late 1990s called and wanted you to know that this can change pretty damn quick. I was going to ask if that that was cash or land. My parents were worth a couple million (asset-wise) when we went to the grocery store with $11 to feed 6 people for a week right before we got our first organic milk check. But you don't sell your cattle, barns, machinery, or land and get to keep farming for long.
And to my earlier post, I never meant to imply that farmers are perfect saints or that their practices should never criticized. I was addressing the fact that a previous poster said they didn't think farming faced any more criticism than other industries, with which I disagree. My family went organic to stay afloat (also believed in it) so I get into my fair share of scuffles with conventional producers. But like Brett said, it's one thing to have knowledgeable entities like vets, producers, professors, etc. come together and discuss how to make improvements, and another to have a poorly edited video splashed across the evening news determining the future of the industry. Groups like HSUS don't just want to make improvements to the industry. They are trying to eliminate animal agriculture. Two very different things.
And it's very true most farmers don't want to be put on a pedestal for what they do. That's not their nature. But like I said, even though it was ultimately to sell a truck, it was nice to get good publicity for once.

I'm glad you pointed that out - if you didn't like that ad or the Detroit one from last year, then I get that. You don't like that type of commercial and that's fine. I'm a sentimental sap though, so I liked all of them :)

I feel this has been hammered on several times, but of course the purpose of a commercial is to promote a product. What company in their right mind would honestly waste a commercial airing in what I'm assuming is the most widely watched sporting event of the year? You don't think it was Budweiser's intentions to tug on the heart strings a bit with the cute horse ad?
Maybe the pastures are a little greener down in ol' Bloomfield...but I cant say I know that many farmers that would classify as a "millionaire" considering many of today's farms operate in debt.
Even if you were a millionare farmer, say you wanted/needed a new combine and matching grain heads to go with it...whoops their goes $500,000.
I think you are confusing "money rich" and "asset rich" their are PLENTY of farmers that have a $1,000,000+ tied up in farmland, equipment, input costs, labor costs, etc. For the most part, the majority of money farms produce, goes right back into putting next years crop in the ground or feeding livestock.

Hello, the 1980s and late 1990s called and wanted you to know that this can change pretty damn quick. Early 2000s even. People don't realize what the hard times are like. There is no guaranteed paycheck. Yes, right now the insurance set up has mitigated the vast majority of risk. The issue is that can change very quick. I would urge you to do a breakeven on raising a crop with today's inputs. A bad month in the markets, which would, in turn, influence future insurance guarantees, could still place a pretty heavy burden on 2013. I don't think people get how quickly it can turn. Factor in you have rental rates and other inputs that aren't likely to fall at the same rate as inputs could and you have issues.
