I saw reference to this somewhere yesterday and figured it must been some anniversary of it happening 100+ years ago because you don't really hear about decapitating and quartering someone these days. Wow.

The Deadspin article about it actually has a link to a video showing the referee "afterwards". Definitely NSFW and gruesome so be warned if anyone dares peek.

Is this supposed to be a soccer > baseball thread or a thread about a horrible crime?

Certainly beats my gunfight breaking out at a soccer game in Council Bluffs story... I think that only had one guy die.

It should be noted that the ref stabbed a player to death and his death was revenge. Not that is makes it less gruesome but they weren't just mad over is officiating.

Nothing ever happens in baseball, time just passes you by for about 4 hours.

    1. A soccer fan has no room to talk. You guys cheer for 90+ minutes, and are satisfied with a 0-0 tie. Yes, that's 90 minutes of kicking a ball back and forth, and not being able to get it into a net.

    2. Sometimes I feel like soccer fans aren't really soccer fans, they are just in the closet WWE fans. What I mean by that is, sure, they cheer for their team (just like WWE fans cheer for The Rock or John Cena) but really, they just wanna see the riot, or in this case, decapitation (just like WWE fans cheer for a chair to hit the opponent)

    1. 90 minutes is a lot less time than 4 hours, and the build up of opportunities is constant action not just waiting there for a pitch or changing fields and warming up again and again. If you don't know the game, you won't like it and yes I know it's not for everyone but I'm not sure what you expected for responses with #soccersucks. USA won 6-0 last night so it's not like every game is 0-0.

    2. This was an amateur match in Brazil, it's not like it was the Barclays or MLS. It is bound to happen in soccer when there soooooo many more fans all over the world. There's a reason 40% of the country takes work off on World Cup game days and it's not in hopes of mayhem.

    3. Golf is way better to watch, at least they can switch to other people who are actually hitting the ball rather than zooming in on the pitchers face for 20 seconds or commercials all the time when changing the field.

all the people that claim soccer is boring (americans anyways), don't realize europeans have the same feelings for football.

Why use pads, that's stupid. Why do they take long breaks during plays? Why is it called football when you barely kick it?

In fact, soccer has way more action than football if you consider the breaks between plays. Soccer is constant action. Of course, football is a lot more physical which is why Americans like it more than other countries.

You can make the case of "well Brazil and all the little countries are too poor to play football". Actually, some of those countries can afford it, but it will never pass soccer. They think american football is stupid.

Just because a game finishes 0-0 doesn't mean it's boring, sometimes those are the best matches due to it's constant desperation by both clubs to not settle for 1 point.
