Moreno after his 5th place match. Great interview and he directly addresses a lot of stuff about expectations, the coaching staff, and the team.

Moreno makes no excuses. But does acknowledge some improvement and knows what the fan base is saying

165 is going to be pretty interesting next year, I wonder how many of the top guys from 157 and 174 will move in to 165 with Taylor gone. I believe Deiringer (the champ at 157) is moving up. Not sure who else.

It would be huge if Mike makes the finals next year. With him and Gadson both in the finals, mid AA out of Hall, and low AA or R12 out of Weatherman we'd be looking at 5th or 6th most likely. Add in a surprise AA or two and I don't think we could challenge for the title, but we'd be easily into the top 5.

Though they might be long shots-my guess surprises would be Weatherspoon, Meeks and Molina. Just best guesses at this point..Maybe not all-americans next year, but at some point in their careers.

It is worth noting that as of last year they no longer treat the tournament as a 64 man bracket with most of the wrestlers getting first round byes. They now treat it as a 32 man bracket with pigtails. That means there are now 92.5 fewer points available.

Posted in another thread but i think close to low, base, and high expectations for next year. What I think separates us next year with base case and high case is bonus points. Bonus points are huge in the tournament setting.

My thoughts on expectations next year:
0 FR starters (only way we have any is if they are that good, which would be OK to not have 5 SO starting), 5 SO, 2 Jr, 3 SR
125: Larson RSO - Think if he was our starter this year would of been an NCAA qualifier - Solid wrestler, will give Boston a chance to redshirt. Hoping for a couple of wins in the NCAA hopefully 2 team points.
133: Hall JR - Move up a weight, return to AA - Doubt high AA but scoring 10 team points
141: Meeks RSO - Not sure what to expect after he's had a chance to redshirt and work with Troy for a year. Hoping low AA scoring 10 team points (could be more could be none)
149: G. Moreno RSO Lets just put him at a couple more wins in the NCAA and he scores us 4 team points
157: Goettl RSR / Molina RJR Plan on no points, hope I'm wrong
165: M. Moreno RSR Finalist scoring 20 team points
174: Weatherman RJR Low AA scoring 12 team points
184: Weatherspoon RSO Same as Gabe - scores us 4 team points
197: Gadson RSR Finalist scoring 20 team points
HWT: Smith RSO qualifies hope for 1 team point

High side next year is 80-90 team points - would put us in contention for a title (with the parity we have now)
    Realistic is probably 55 - 65 team points - 5th to 7th this year
Low side would be 45 - 55 team points - 8th to 10th this year

My money is on Meeks. He had 13 losses last season, and gets a lot of crap for that. But look at who those 13 losses were too...

4-5 to Joe Colon of UNI (seeded 1st this year, ended up 3rd)
3-6 to Scott Festejo of Old Dominion (Went 1-2 at NCAAs in 2013)
7-19 to Tony Ramos of Iowa (2nd in 2013, 1st this year)
2-6 to Josh Rodriguez of NDSU (NCAA Qualifier in 2013, undefeated as a redshirt this year)
    2-6, 4-18, 4-13 to Cody Brewer of Oklahoma (7th in 2013, 8th this year)
6-7 to Vincent Dellafave of Rutgers (1-2 at NCAAs in 2013, 0-2 in 2014)
3-9 to Jon Morrison of Oklahoma State (5th in 2013, DNP this year)
2-4 to Zain Richards of Illinois (seeded 14th this year, wrestled to seed)
5-14 to Ryan Mango of Stanford (R12 this year)
0-5 to Levi Wolfensperger of UNI (R12 in 2013, behind Colon this year)

None of those were bad losses. He wasn't able to break through but in retrospect his true freshman season was a lot better than it seemed at the time.

Sounds about right for low/medium/high, though I don't know if I'd put Larson in the pointscoring camp. He's got upside but this last season he was only 5-6 against D-1 competition and that was mostly against backups and redshirts.

In the consi side early, advancement points at .5/round and fall are worth 2 points. Big credit to the guys for looking for pins

Boy it makes you wonder how a team score 100 points at Nationals.

Earl getting 8th and only scores 5.5 points.

Ten All Americans at 8th place would only get you 55 points and 7th place this year (with no bonus points)

Is 1st place with no bonus points = to 16 points? and what is 2nd place?

Come to think about it, it must be 20 for 1st because I don't think Ramos had any bonus.

Hard to believe but Iowa did not have a single fall in the whole tourney!

One guy from Central Michigan got -1 points because he bit a guy. All the points he'd earned were erased and he got penalized 1 point.

So he's got that going for him.
