They were runner ups in the national championship game last year! Have some respect.

Lets at least be accurate, it was referred to as a national championship. Get it right or Fran will slam a chair on your foot.

Makes sense though. Go from the NIT directly to winning the best basketball conference the next season. Seems logical. Maybe they should be more focused on winning enough games to get into the NCAA's first.

I can't recall a coach ever saying half as much stupid stuff as Fran has to the media in his tenure...beyond laughable

Iowa was as close to winning the conference as Iowa State was close to beating Baylor last weekend.

Iowa was as close to winning the Big Ten last year as Fran was to coaching a player to the NBA.

You guys sure do love to talk about Iowa basketball. Three different threads on the frontpage alone, that's impressive.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a flying Fig Newton about the University of Iowa's sports teams?

I'm pretty sure there are always multiple threads about ISU on Hawkeye Nation too. It goes both ways sport.

Don't even compare Iowa threads here versus ISU threads on HN. That effin place is obsessed with ISU. However, we ISU fans don't have football to look forward to anymore this season, so we're talking about basketball.

When I see quotes this delusional from any coach, I'm going to make a thread about it. That would be like Tubby Smith talking about making the tourney this year. (and for you Iowa fans, I'm talking about the NCAA tourney, not any of the other ones)

"And Oglesby (+ Jok) has been shooting the ball very well. Those two guys give us two terrific three-point shooters at 6-6."

"Oglesby dropped from 37% as a freshman to 27% last year"

    ~ Terrific?
    ~ 27%?

    > when he has no handle and is marginal on defense?--and shoots 27% from three? Oglesby is 6'6"?

    LMAO

    good lord

The consensus from Iowa fans within earshot of me this fall, all think Iowa will destroy ISU in MBB this December

They can't name more than one ISU mbb starter (usually Niang)

They have zero clue. They never heard of Monte Morris, Matt Thomas, nor DeAndre Kane

Kane may be the best player on the floor for this game.

If you're gonna talk smack around an ISU fan---at least know wtf you're talking about.....but we're talking about the typical arrogant, and IGNORANT, Hawk fan.

no use in discussing sports with these gonads

By Fran's definition, I was close to being valedictorian with my 2.37 high school GPA.

I do not understand why people are expecting Iowa to improve so much this year since it is the same bunch of guys. If they were bringing in a couple five star recruits, sure, but it is rare to see a group of players improve as much as people expect Iowa to, especially since most are already upperclassmen. Making the tournament, sure, that is a reasonable expectation. But running with Sparty and Ohio State to win the Big Ten? Give me a break.

Why is is news? I wouldn't want a coach who doesn't talk conference title to his team prior to the season. They should be the goal of every team especially those that are upper division in their conference, which most people believe they are this year.
