Your position breaks down to the government knows what's best for the individual moreso than the individual themselves. That seems pretty inconsistent with a republican worldview that I've inferred you to have. This seems like more of a nannystate move, just that it's done on "moochers" so it's not as degrading because they don't know any better. Not unlike a healthcare mandate saying that people must have insurance.

you get pretty whiney to a guy who wants food stamps to be run more like wic, and thinks that wic seems like way more of a pain in the *** than is necessary.

Well that's kind of a flawed analogy. I mean, the government already tells me I need to have liability on my vehicle or I will be punished right? I don't have a problem with that. The healthcare thing isn't really comparable because they aren't paying for my health insurance. People, nowadays, have a pretty good idea of what people do or don't need to survive. If you want a $50 candy bar go for it but I don't think it is the right of someone on food stamps to be able to use them for something like that. My politics also go on a case by case basis so maybe it is inconsistent.

if their personal choice directly impacts federal budgets then yes it is a republican issue. i'm an independant because ive never understood why repubs want freedom from gov except in marriage and libs want gov except for abortion rights. which is it? people are all over the map for no apparent reason. i think the rep viewpoint in this is because you're spending tax money they dont want it wasted on junk food. they want to be good stewards of a necessary program.

Good post. I'd much rather somebody who adopts kids get a little help from the gov't to feed them, then have the kids growing up on the streets or in a bad situation and eventually rob me. The extra expenses are a major negative incentive to adopting kids, so a little help seems fair considering how much kids cost to raise right. I think the cost-benefit ratio seems clear on this one.

I dont have a problem with what he is doing either, more so have a problem with how he says it. that he doesnt need the money, but its ok to take because what he is doing with it will be better than what we do with it ourselves.

That is what i have a problem with. That is about as assuming and conceited as it gets.

Get rid of all of the fraud then look at the rest of the program.

Stop states from manipulating the benefits to increase the amount of SNAP being received and stop EBT cards issued in one state from being used in a state a thousand miles away.
