I went to Manhattan this weekend to watch the basketball game and had a great time even though we got pounded on the court. We met some very hospitable KSU students who let us tag along with them at the game (4 ISU students with red shirts sitting in the KSU student section). They even invited us to party with them at their house and let us crash there for the night.

One of my friends went to a bar in Aggieville called Rusty's. He was having a good time. He said there were a lot of KSU football and basketball players there as well (including Andre Gilbert and Michael Beasley). It turns out that a cat-fight broke out between two girls, whom apparently were both flirting with the KSU athletes. A male friend of one of the girls comes over to defend her and Andre Gilbert flipped his lid. Both start yelling smack talk at each other and Gilbert threatens to beat the other guy up. By this point everyone is advising this guy to leave before Gilbert beats him up. The bouncers escort the girls out of the bar. Eventually the guy decides to leave and Gilbert chases after him and beats up this guy (not sure if it was inside or outside). Then Gilbert takes off before anyone could catch him. My friend watched this happen and talked to the victim who had a severely broken nose. Apparently the victim's mother is the DA for the area and claims that there is no way Gilbert will get away with it.

My friend told me this story several different times and it matches up every time and I don't have any reason to doubt that this actually happened. I have looked on the internet for any news concerning the encounter but haven't really found anything yet. I did learn that Andre Gilbert was once indicted for one count of first-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree rape while he was at South Dakota State University but was later acquitted.

What is it with athletes and bar fights??? If I were a coach, I would have a hard time keeping myself from telling them college bars are off limits.

If everyone in the story is telling the truth I would be very surprised if Andre Gilbert isn't charged and convicted of assault. Time will tell if anything comes of it...

Re: Andre Gilbert - Charges to be filed soon?

Can underage people be in bars in Kansas?
Doesn't seem like the story is credible to me.

Yeah, because no underage athlete gets let into bars they shouldn't be in.

True, but I always take what people see at a bar with a grain of salt, since their vision and memory might be slightly impaired

I doubt it. Remember KSU is a school that will do anything to win so even if he gets charged he will probaly still play.

In the same weekend...a Mizzu player ends up with a late-night broken jaw and a KSU player beats up someone.

Way to go, Big 12 hoops!

    :skeptical:

Stephon from Mizzou received the worst of the two now, but the KSU fellow will pay in the long term.

I went looking to see if anything was on the KSU boards - nothing. But...read this thread on what's probably the worst message board ever...

Hannah in hospital after bar fight... (ksufans.com)

Man...I can't wait until they catch wind of their player getting in trouble. Karma can be a real pain in the butt. :)

And this is why K-State is my least favorite team in the Big 12.

I hope KU beats them by 40.

That KSU-KU rivalry must be a bad one. I lived in Kansas for 5 years and never thought it was that bad, but man some of those posts. They make the Iowa-ISU rivalry look very calm.

Here are some of the posts off of there
"Good thing he is playing for a black coach." One person on their actually said that. They are some of the most obnoxious fans in college sports.

Not to mention, a horribly managed message board. There have been some crude things that have cropped up here too - as with any internet site.

Some choose to now allow that stuff and others choose to allow 'em to run wild.

You can see first hand the side effects of the latter on that site.

Yeah, KSU does not have a good message board anywhere from what I've seen.

I didn't want to turn this thread into a KSU fan bashing thread, as I was and still partially am a KSU fan (except when they play ISU now). Most of my family are K-Staters and went to school there. I would be there at school now if it wasn't for my family moving to Iowa when I was younger. So, if you want to bash KSU, bash the coaches or players, not the people of Kansas please.

I just posted this because I wanted to share my experience and story with other ISU fans, take it for what it's worth. I still haven't seen anything reported by any media sources.

I read the 3 KSU forums just about everyday, and this is the first I heard about this. When did this happen?

Rusty's is considered to be a food/beer joint, so any age can be in there. I often take my 16 year old son and a few of his buddies in there before/after games. It is usually a pretty quiet place.
