I think sports salaries are ridiculous, but all the same he had a point. If the university is turning a profit on the b-ball dept?! He deserves to make what they will pay him, as long as it isn't "state" money and they are self-sufficient. Not much different than the Iowa/KF talk really.
What can a critic really say when it is not their money and they're profitable. I don't care much for Calhoun or UCONN, but I found his comments refreshing, though a tick boorish.
Plus the guy asking was some doofus who ran his own message board and probably shouldnt have even been there asking questions. Nice to see his attempt to create drama blew up in his face. He's a tool though so he probably feels vindicated because Calhoun blew a fuse.
I liked the part where he lumped all the other reporters together as "scared" to ask about the topic and you could hear them all moaning about it. I bet he got beat up by the bike rack after the press conference.
Heard about it on the news this morning - as it turns out the idiot was actually a political activist with a personal agenda and not a real reporter. Jim Calhoun gained a fan with me on that one...
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
Calhoun did the right thing there. Temper or no temper. The guy was just trying to stir the pot without knowing all the facts. In a public setting after a game no less. It would have been more appropriate for the guy to have at least done more research beforehand.
Agree with the others here, if UConn basketball makes that much money and takes no money from the university then pay Calhoun whatever they think he is worth.
It's his money he can do whatever he wants with it. You shouldn't be punished for being successful. The reporter is obviously some crazed radical liberal who has no idea how to do his job. The reporter got what he deserved for being stupid.
