Just for fun, let's ponder this stupid idea over:
1. Merge an unsuccessful FBS program with a traditionally winning FCS program. Merge two D-I programs into a D2 program.
2. I'm thinking that D2 schools tend to be a whole lot smaller than ISU or UNI, but especially ISU. I assume that this means a general restructuring and massive downsizing of the university in order to compete in D2 football (hopefully).
3. This downsizing would pretty much gut the jobs and research money at ISU. That kind of economic impact is worth it, really, for the glory of giving up and chasing smaller dreams. It's only thousands of people losing their jobs because football isn't very good.
