When i heard CPR talk at meet the coaches night, i knew we could be in trouble. He tried to spin things the most positive way, but was already spinning the inexperience as if to prepare us for a rough ride ahead.
Frankly, I was not part of the "Fire Messingham" group after the Liberty Bowl, still not after UNI (but was in the back of my mind), but after this game...I am in the group. And I think, something HAS to happen, and it's not the fault of Richardson, this was NOT a good game, but he still has a lot to learn and I'm not gonna put this on him. I AM going to put it on the terrible play calling.
The defense didn't do themselves any favors. (Oh look, I think Iowa is running it down our throats again.) But our offense wasn't helping either, when we can't do anything and our defense is out there for a large majority of the game of course they're gonna get tired and beat up. The positive was that the defense got better throughout the game, DESPITE being out there so much. Granted, I think every team will pretty much be able to run it down our throats.
Messingham NEEDS to go, or something has to absolutely SPARK this offense. Because I'm embarrassed by this inept offense. When we get field position, we do NOTHING with it and that's the killer.
My uneducated, XBOX NCAA coaching experience is this. I think we need to start establishing our running game by actually doing something downfield. That may even open up the freaking screens so that they're more effective as well. Right now all you need to do to beat our offense is stack the box, and cover the flats.
So frankly, I think until either Messingham is canned/demoted and we figure something out...I'm afraid we may be going 0-12...and this is coming from an optimist.
I do believe Richardson is a serviceable QB. And we have pass catchers and RBs who are average or above average.
Our line play, and overall execution is TERRIBLE.
Not with this offense. It's a ******* joke. This was a bad Iowa team, probably one of the worst we've seen in 15 years and it took desperation to score a whole 21 points against them. If Iowa were a halfway decent team, they'd have beaten us by 30. Wait til we go to Baylor, this season is a trainwreck of epic proportions.
yay! two more weeks to talk about this!!
they had two weeks to prepare for weisman running and they still couldn't stop him.
I have no idea how I typed that without a :jimlad.
I hope a miracle happens, because I really wanted and want CPR to be our guy.
CPR is a heck of a coach
