Since when has the Pac-10 been good at basketball? How about "pretty much always"? The Pac-10 may not get the publicity that East Coast leagues like the Big East and the ACC, but they've been playing good basketball out West almost since James Naismith hung that first peach basket.
Obviously, UCLA's tradition is second to none, and Arizona has been a national power on the level of a North Carolina or Duke for more almost 25 years under Lute Olson. Furthermore, Oregon, Cal, and Stanford have won national titles, and Arizona State, Oregon State, USC, Washington, and Washington State have all made Final Four appearances.
Maybe the bottom halves of leagues like the ACC and SEC are stronger than the lower division of the Pac-10, but the top half of the Pac-10 is every bit as good as any other league in the country.
