Re: Iowa State Center Courtyard Renovation
Is there really a need for outdoor concert space? Or maybe they can figure out a way to use it for football game pep rallies and tailgating (food booths and bands playing before the game). However putting in grass, trees, a stage and fountain doesn't seem all that inventive. So when the trees are all finally mature (30 years) it will look nice but at that point do they plan another renovation and rip it all out to put in something new - like raised walkways?!

The plans/renderings from the Sept. 19th presentation are up now, so you can see the preferred plan. Click on the Sept 19, 2012 presentation under Iowa State Center Courtyard improvements.

Looks like East/West with modifications and including the diagonal sidewalks from Lincoln Way/Beach.
Here's one screenshot. ∞ -

Link: Iowa State University Campus Master Plan Looks good - I hope they go with option c for the pavillions, the straight angles go better with the surrounding buildings.
Can't wait to see what they do with this related to pre game festivities.

Here's one screenshot. Which is what I was hoping for from the beginning. Looks great to me! I definitely think this place needs some sprucing up.

For one day a year? Not a big issue. At some point central campus is something to be used, not a museum. What better use than a concert at the biggest event of the ISU year.

Really hate to see the raised walkways go.

Re: Iowa State Center Courtyard Renovation
This could be a really good space to utilize during FB/BB seasons for events or promotions. The idea of live music during tailgates is a good one. They could also put the Kids zone up there to free up additional donor parking near the stadium. That space seems to be at a premium lately.

This will be awesome....
....lose the trees and some of the other extras to finish it for $1.5 M and put $1M toward the SEZ

I think the landscaping could have been accomplished without the demolition of the raised walkways. Just a big part of the look and feel to the area it seems silly to tear them down. Are they practical not really but they are a part of the origional design element.
Might i add when the area floods again in a few years you will be wanting those walkways :)
