Re: Laptops in class?
I thought I was going to do laptop notes when I started college. Never happened. I get too distracted..it's not worth it imo.

Re: Laptops in class?
I actually hate powerpoint for lectures, too. I grew up old-school.
Too many people don't catch that the words on the slide are not the entirety of the information. Those are just words to set things up or emphasize key things.

Re: Laptops in class?
I graduated before wireless at ISU (therefore before the laptop craze), but if I were to do it now I'd probably use pen and paper for classes that taking notes on a computer might be hard (math, science, engineering, etc - hard to write equations quickly), and computer for the rest.

Re: Laptops in class?
I will say this. I've tried taking notes on a laptop before. One of three things happened:
1) I took conscious notes and got the information.
2) I became distracted fairly often and missed big chunks.
3) I was distracted the whole time and learned nothing.
2 & 3 happened more often then 1. The good notes I actually typed down were never seen from again, as I never bothered to go back and re-open the files.
So, my suggestion is pen/paper. It's all there for when you need to go back and study, you're not skipping notes from different word files and what not, and you have less distractions to bother you.

This is when i liked when teachers would post their power point slides prior to class. Then i could use those and attach my notes right to them. Then when reviewing i had everything right there.

Re: Laptops in class?
Honestly, in many classes, pay attention during class and you won't need to review much for exams. Obviously a different story if you have to do homework or something but if it's just papers/exams, pay attention in class and you won't have to spend much time outside of class on studying.
