Recent success on the football field and new facilities. Both were enough for Iowa State lure an early commitment out of Kamari Syrie, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound strong safety out of Hurst, (Texas) L.D. Bell.

Syrie could have waited to pick up more offers during the summer months but felt that Iowa State was the place for him when he committed back on June 14.

"I really like the way that the program appears to be going up like with how they beat Oklahoma State last year," said Syrie. "They're in the Big 12 and are getting some good players."

Iowa State's tight end coach Luke Wells was Syrie's lead recruiter. Syrie also had an offer from former Iowa State head coach Dan McCarney and North Texas. Indiana, Arkansas State, Texas State and Rice were showing interest.

Syrie played linebacker during his junior season but will be making the switch back to his natural position, strong safety as a senior. Syrie said that Iowa State is currently projecting him as a nickel back.

"I was bigger than most safeties and they didn't have any returners," said Syrie as to why he played linebacker last season. "I'm trying to improve my speed and my footwork. I'm good at being physical."

Syrie has yet to step on Iowa State's campus but he feels like he already has due to technology.

"They showed me a virtual image of what it (the new football facility) will look like," said Syrie. "The whole design of the weight room looks very nice."
Syrie will wait until this fall to take his official visit to Iowa State.
