Wildcats defeat Iowa State, 73-67
By Chris Moore, CycloneFanatic.com WBB Blogger Manhattan has never been a fun place for the Iowa State women’s basketball team to travel to. That didn’t change today as Kansas State upset the Cyclones by a 73-67 final. Iowa State never really looked comfortable in the game as they went 6-of-20 from 3-point range. The Cyclones also committed 14 turnovers compared to Kansas State’s eight.
Some notes from the game include:
- Kansas State’s Ashley Sweat recorded a game high 31 points. - Allison Lacey struggled in the second half after scoring 11 points in the first. She wound up with 13 points on 6-of-16 shooting. On the positive side of things, Lacey ended the game with a double-double with 10 assists and only one turnover.
- Free Throw shooting was the key to the game today as Kansas State made 15-20 compared to Iowa State’s 5-8.
This is a really tough game to swallow. Kansas State just seemed like they wanted it more and really went after the Cyclones. It really did seem like any shot that the Wildcats took, it went in. I don’t know how many times where I thought to my self “yes they missed,” and a split second later the ball spins in some weird way and go in. But really there is no excuse but poor defense in this game that cost Iowa State. Every time the Cyclones would go on a run, Kansas State would answer. There isn’t much that Iowa State can do but learn from this and come back and play better against Texas Tech on Wednesday.
