LAKE COMO, Italy- The Iowa State women's basketball team defeated Chemcats Chemnitz, 98-66, Wednesday evening in Lake Como, Italy to finish the Italian tour undefeated (3-0). The Cyclones shot 48 percent from the field in the rout of German-based Chemcats Chemnitz.
“They had a little edge to them,” head coach Bill Fennelly said. “We played great. We scored 98 points and we did a lot of great things. It was nice to see everyone contribute.”
Impressive ball handling from senior point guard Nikki Moody kept Iowa State ahead from the get-go. The Cyclones really opened things up after a pair of free-throw makes by senior Brynn Williamson after a technical foul by the Chemcats head coach. ISU followed with a 3-point make by sophomore Kidd Blaskowsky to lead 36-20. On the following play, Moody located a wide open Fallon Ellis underneath for a layup, 38-20. ISU would finish the half with a 20-point lead over a physical German team, 51-31.
Iowa State would maintain the double-digit lead throughout the game to close with a 98-66 victory. The Cyclones went 30-for-62 from the field in game three for 48 percent. Iowa State also went 14-of-29 from long range, with 42 total points coming from 3-pointers.
