State champion wrestler Seeley gains football offer

lg FOOTBALL RECRUITING UPDATE1

Paul Rhoads made one young man’s day on Saturday. That’s because Iowa State’s head football coach extended a scholarship offer to longtime Cyclone fan Kane Seeley of Perry, Iowa.

"He said that I could be a successful player for them and that I’d fit in there," said Seeley, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound middle linebacker. "He said that he was offering me a full-ride scholarship to Iowa State."

Seeley recorded 78 tackles during his junior season. Perry went 3-6 on the year in Class 2A.

Seeley is also one of the top wrestlers in the state of Iowa. He won the 2A state championship at 215-pounds last season (Seeley went 47-0) after placing fourth at 171-pounds as a sophomore.

Seeley has fond memories of going to Jack Trice Stadium as a little kid.

"I have always been a Cyclone fan. I never hated the Hawkeyes but I’ve always liked Iowa State better for sure. I went to games when I was little and stuff like that," Seeley said. "Being close and able to go watch Iowa State helped. I’d go and mess around on the hill when I was young."

Seeley’s favorite Cyclone of all-time? You guessed it…

"Seneca Wallace. He was always a big stud. I loved watching him," Seeley said.

Bob Elliott has been handling Seeley’s recruiting for Iowa State.

"He kind of told me that if I came to camp and did well, I could get an offer," Seeley said. I worked really hard at camp and it paid off for me."

Seeley will head to Northern Iowa’s camp on Monday.

"I"d like to compare the two," Seeley said.

Expect Seeley to return to Iowa State on an unofficial visit sometime soon though.

"I am going to go and look at the academic side of things," Seeley said. "I want to look at the academic facilities and stuff. I want to go on a tour."

Seeley plans to major in education.

Iowa State is Seeley’s only scholarship offer at this time. He attended at day camp at Iowa back on June 11 and might go to South Dakota State in July.

"I will probably make my decision before the season, just to get it out of the way."
